The FTC has gone after 4 major diet pill sellers. The makers of Xenadrine EFX, CortiSlim, TrimSpa, and One-A-Day WeightSmart have been fined. See details in the article linked below:

I wonder why they went after these. There are others that seem worse to me. Take Hoodia for example. I had missed it until recently, but Hoodia seems to be 99% hype. Check this wikipedia link, be sure to check the references:

Hoodia may prove to be a break through but for now I would beware.

You want to increase your metabolism?
The best way to increase your metabolism will also improve your body image. The magic answer is to build your bodies core. Stronger Abs and Back: 165 Exercises to Build Your Center of Power gives you a plan and many exercises and variations to them. I found the explanations and pictures did a good job of explaining the varies positions. There is nothing new age or fancy here but a good reference to help build your core. I rate this a 4 of 5 stars. Not a page turner and not as good as being shown the exercises in person.

Using artificial sweeteners may acutally make you fat!
The studies used in this article suggest that artificial sweeteners inhibit the body's ability to monitor calorie in take. This leads to a larger body size in those who use artificial sweeteners . Or maybe they are guilty, like me, of drinking a diet drink while enjoying a big mac and large fries? I know that the calories do register when I eat but I chose to ignore that fact while enjoying my food. I am beginning to see a theme develop in my research. But more on that later as I need more research before I can state my great diet theory ;-)

You on a Diet book review
This is a good book. It emphasizes life changes over short term diet strategies. The writers go into the science behind all the buzz words we hear today. You will come away with a better understanding of how this things work in the body and the general biology behind weight loss and gain.
Their basic thesis is that if you eat the right foods and develop the habit of exercise, your body will return to its idea weight. They tell you the food types to avoid and provide a basic plan for eating and exercise. The point is also made that you can be skinny and have as many health risk as an over weight person if you lifestyle is not a healthy one. Exercise has to be part of your life. It makes losing and keeping off weight easier. When you exercise you also get the side effects of reducing the risks of many diseases.
My biggest complaint is their use of corny phrases to emphasize points. Sometimes they do help make the point but many times they get in the way.
If you are not the type that likes knowing the whys with the how’s you will not like this book. As for me and I give it 5 stars out of 5.
